| Diamond Mining |
We offer loose diamonds produced by the conflict free diamond mining processes. One of the most prized and wanted stone in the world, diamond, is kept hidden by earth in her bosom. Diamonds are formed after carbon gets crystallized under extreme heat and pressure. Diamonds are generally found in igneous rock known as kimberlite. In order to extract the lovely gift of nature, it has to be extracted from the earth’s mantle. Depending on where the precious stones are found different diamond mining technique is used. ![]() Factors like how and where the diamonds are deposited, the solidity of the material surrounding the desired mineral are also kept in mind before deciding on the method to be applied for diamond mining. Hard rock mining, open pit mining, placer mining and marine mining are some of the techniques used for diamond mining. Hard rock mining: in this form a tunnel is made which leads to the raw material. In order to better facilitate the extractions rooms or stopes which are supported by timber pillars of standing rock are made. The miners reached the underground deposits by using a ‘decline’ or a ‘shaft’. A ‘decline’ which is a spiral tunnel which circles the flank of the ore deposit or circles around the deposit is used to reach the deposit by the miners or the machinery. A ‘shaft’ is vertical tunnel and is used to transport the deposit to the surface. Open Pit Diamond Mining: in this method the mineral is extracted from an open pit or a burrow. This method is generally used when the deposits are not deep into the earth or are along kimberlite pipes. This method is also used when the surface covering the mineral deposit is thin or the surface is not sturdy enough to dig a tunnel. Placer Diamond Mining: this method is also known as sand bank mining and is used when the minerals are deposited in alluvial soil. It is also in a way open pit mining as it does use tunnels. Marine Diamond Mining: is a recent development in the diamond mining technique. As the name itself suggests this method is used to extract diamonds or minerals from offshore areas. Two technique ‘vertical’ and ‘horizontal’ are used. In vertical mining, the drill head sucks out the raw material from the bed of the sea. In horizontal method, Seabed Crawlers which is controlled by a remote crawl on the sea bed and pumps raw material to a nearby vessel. |
