Diamonds have attracted people with their sheer brilliance through ages. Women, especially love to own a piece of diamond jewelry.  Nowadays sealing vows with a diamond ring during engagement or wedding has become a norm. It is also quite easy to be duped with a fake jewelry made of fake diamonds. So it is very important to understand and know about diamonds before purchasing it. Quickly go through our diamond guide to understand the most wanted stone. Here we endeavor to educate about the basic points to keep in mind while purchasing a diamond.

ringsThe first step towards knowing your diamond is to understand the 4 Cs.  The 4 Cs stand for Cut, Clarity, Color and Carat weight of the diamond.  Our diamond guide explains that when a jeweler says ‘Cut’, he does not mean the shape or the outward appearance of the stone. What he is referring to is the geometrical aspect of the diamond like depth, width and the uniformity of its facets. These factors play an important role in determining the brilliance, durability and other features of the diamond. In other words it is the cut which determines how much a diamond will sparkle. On the basis of the Cut diamonds have been divided into the following categories Ideal, Premium, Very Good, Good, Fair and Poor.
Clarity refers to the kind of flaws, which are known as inclusions and blemishes, which are present in the diamond. Internal flaws like air bubbles, cracks, and non-diamond minerals found in the diamond are called inclusions. Surface flaws like scratches, pits, and chips are referred to as blemishes.  It is very rare to find a diamond with very few inclusions and blemishes; lesser the flaws expensive the diamond. To understand the amount of flaws a diamond we have given the grading in out diamond guide-

Flawless= F (A diamond without any flaws- it is very difficult to find such diamonds) color diamonds

Internally Flawless= IF (A diamond with only some surface flaws, no internal flaws- very rare)

Very Very Slightly Included= VVS1-VVS2 (Difficult to find flaws under 10x magnification)

Very Slightly Included= VS1-VS2 (Seen under 10x magnification but with much difficulty.)
Slightly Included= SI1-SI2 (Small inclusions which can be detected with 10x magnification)

Included= I1-I2-I3 (visible with 10x as well as naked eye, this is not recommended)

We recommend VVS and VS grades which are excellent but SI1 and SI2 are also equally good. Color does not mean the actual color but the absence of any color. The clearer the diamond the expensive it is.   A carat is a unit of measurement of a diamond. Carat refers to the weight of the diamond. There is no fixed rule as to what size diamond is the ideal.
