Cut here does not refer to the shape of the diamond but to the proportions, finish, symmetry, and polish of the diamond. The correct length-width ratio decides the brilliance of the diamond.  The reflective quality of the diamond cuts is affected by its depth. If the diamond is cut too deep or shallow than it won’t have the brilliance that is associated with diamonds; the light entering it does not get reflected back. For the diamond to sparkle, the light entering it should be reflect back thus the stone should be proportionate. Diamond symmetry refers to the proportional configuration of its facet and polished surface. This facet is polished to achieve the maximum play of light and the process is called diamond polish.
